"Delicate Tensions"
My work explores a dialogue between myself and a new dream-like state in which I undergo a personal search in the development of my own identity. I examine this by placing myself in cosmic spaces with repeating patterns in nature to create a new invisible landscape of thought, dreams, and evolution. The imagery I use stems from the spirituality of my parents, whom I am highly influenced by. The idea that humans are connected to invisible energies and cosmic space, vulnerable to both positive and negative energy, is visible in my work. I am fascinated by nature’s relationship with humans and its mysterious cycles and patterns. This relationship and vulnerability are reflected in the tension of my materials; there is a layer in all my works that creates a push and pull between each medium. Some pieces quiet, others loud, the boundary of edge breaks in them all while remaining orderly. These ideas all project a kind of personal search, where I evolve and explore with heightened awareness. Though my work is personal, I believe it visually reflects and relates to many in my age group. I use myself and the general human anatomy to react to and be in dialogue with these various landscapes and relationships. Canvas, wood, paint, pencil, ink, prints and miscellaneous mixed media are the materials I use to execute these visual delicate tensions.
